The wire transfer system is highly reliable and secure and is beneficial for high-dollar payment transactions.

UMB processes Wire Transfers through the Federal Reserve’s communication network (Fedwire). This system moves money from an account at one financial institution to an account at another on a real-time basis. The network connects all Federal Reserve offices and member banks.

Customers can send wires through online banking, in-branch, phone-in or batch wires via SFTP.

What changed:

  • FX wires are not available in Premier Business Online Banking. If you initiated FX wires online, you received a separate communication.

  • Online wires that exceed limits: Temporary online limit increases for wires are not available at UMB. If you need to initiate a wire above your online limits, you can initiate via phone (if you are setup for that service), contact your relationship manager, or visit your local branch.

  • Wire intermediary: This is no longer an available field for online wires. Outgoing wires that require an intermediary are routed by UMB using its wire routing tools.
  • Statement reporting detail: Statements no longer show the name of the outgoing wire beneficiary. Outgoing wires will show description: “wire transfer withdrawal #### (transaction #).” The beneficiary name can be accessed through online banking reporting.

Token and FX wires:

  • Communication was sent close to conversion weekend on tokens and FX wire changes. Contact your relationship manager with any questions.

New for customers

General

  • Batch wires are available via SFTP file transmission. Please reach out to your Treasury Management officer to learn more.
  • Outgoing International USD auto-convert: UMB converts some U.S. dollar payments into the beneficiary’s local currency. For most payments, this conversion does not create any difference in experience for the beneficiary. In fact, the beneficiary may receive better exchange rates and quicker payment processing.
  • Multi-Currency Accounts: UMB offers MCAs in 17 standard foreign currencies.

Phone-in wires

Tokens
UMB requires the use of a SecurID token for phone-in wires. This token will replace the PIN that you currently use for phone-in wires and will provide an enhanced level of authentication. The token is dynamic and displays a new value every 60 seconds.

Callbacks
UMB requires a callback for phone-in wires depending on dollar limits that have been setup and/or what type of account you have.

Limits
Each authorized user is assigned a per-transaction limit. Daily cumulative limits are not available for phone-in.
